Getting found

Built to be found. Not just built.

A tablet and a phone showing search performance charts for a website

Plenty of tradies have a website they can’t find on Google. Here’s what Google is actually looking for, and what’s built into every EasyPage site so you don’t have to think about it.

Plenty of tradies have a website they can’t find on Google.

It looks fine. The photos are good. But type “electrician Papakura” into your phone and you’re nowhere — while a bloke down the road with a worse website sits at the top.

That’s not bad luck. Google isn’t reading your site the way a customer does. It’s looking for a specific set of signals, and most website builders leave you to work those out on your own.

Here’s what’s actually going on, and what we’ve built into every EasyPage site so you don’t have to think about it.

Google reads more than your words

When someone searches “emergency plumber near me”, Google isn’t just scanning your homepage for the word “plumber”. It’s looking for structured data — a machine-readable summary of who you are, sitting quietly in the page code where visitors never see it.

That summary answers the questions Google needs answered: What trade is this? What’s the phone number? Which suburbs do they cover? Is this an actual local business or a national directory?

Without it, Google has to guess from your paragraphs. With it, you’ve handed over the answer sheet.

Every EasyPage site publishes this automatically — your trade, your phone and email, every service area you work in, your services, your social links, the year you started. You fill in your business details once when you set up. We turn them into the format Google reads.

The bits that usually get skipped

A sitemap that keeps itself current

A sitemap is a list of every page on your site, written for search engines. The problem with most of them is that they’re made once and then go stale. Yours updates itself — add a service, post a job, publish an article, and it’s on the list straight away.

Titles and descriptions on every page

That blue headline and grey summary you see in search results? Somebody has to write those, for every page. On EasyPage they’re generated from your business name, your tagline and your service areas. There’s no SEO tab to fill in and nothing to guess at.

Links that look right when you share them

Paste your website into a Facebook group or text it to a customer, and you want your photo and business name to come up — not a bare grey link that looks like spam. That’s Open Graph data, and it’s set up on every page.

Nothing goes public before you’re ready

While you’re still building, your site is blocked from search entirely. Google never sees the half-finished version with placeholder text in it. The moment you publish, that block comes off.

Search Console, without the DNS headache

Google Search Console is the free tool that shows you what people typed before they landed on your site. Not estimates — the actual phrases. It’s genuinely useful, and most tradies never set it up.

The reason is almost always the same: verifying ownership means adding a DNS record to your domain, and that’s where people give up.

Because your domain is with us, that part is ours. You paste the verification code into your dashboard and we write the record. That’s the whole job.

Once it’s connected you can see which suburbs people are searching from, which of your services people actually look for, and which pages are bringing the work in. That tells you where to point your next job photo or your next article.

What we can’t do

We’d rather say this plainly than have you find out later.

We can’t promise you a ranking. Nobody can. Anyone who guarantees you page one is either guessing or lying. What we can do is make sure Google has everything it needs to understand your business — the rest depends on your suburb, your trade, how much competition there is, and what you put on the site.

We can’t write your content for you. The technical side is done. But Google also weighs what’s actually on the page: real photos of your work, service pages that explain what you do, the occasional article. A site with three sentences on it won’t rank well no matter how clean the code is.

Your Google Business Profile is a separate job. The map listing with your opening hours and reviews — that’s a different Google product, and you manage it yourself. It’s free and it’s worth doing. Our job is your website; the two work together.

The short version

Most website builders treat sitemaps, structured data and Search Console as your problem — or sell them as an add-on you find out about later.

On EasyPage they’re just on. Every site, from day one, on the $29 + GST a month plan.

You picked up a trade, not a marketing degree. This part should already be handled.

Get started — $29 + GST a month, NZ domain included. There’s more about the technical side on our SEO page.
