NZ domain guide
NZ domain names for tradies: the short version
Do NZ tradies need a domain?
You don’t need one to get online, but it helps. Your own address — yourbusiness.co.nz — looks established, is easy to say over the phone, fits on a van or a business card, and gives you an email address like hello@yourbusiness.co.nz instead of a personal Gmail.
If you’re just starting out, EasyPage’s Starter plan puts your site on a free address instead, and you can move to your own domain on Business later.
.nz vs .co.nz
Both are New Zealand domains. .co.nz is the long-standing choice for businesses and the one most customers expect to see. .nz is the shorter version, which New Zealand businesses have been able to register directly since 2014. .kiwi.nz is a third NZ option with a Kiwi identity built in.
None of them affects how your site works. Pick the one your customers will remember — and if your first choice is taken in one ending, check the others.
How EasyPage connects your domain
You build your website first, on a free address. When you publish on the Business plan, you choose your domain. We check it’s available, register it, point it at your website and set up SSL, so it loads securely. There are no DNS settings for you to change.
We renew it every year while you’re subscribed, so there’s no separate domain bill. If you already own a domain, you add one record where you bought it and we connect it the same way.
How much does a website + domain cost?
With many providers the website and the domain are billed separately, and a domain that’s free in the first year is charged from the second. On EasyPage’s Business plan they’re one price: $29 + GST a month with your NZ domain included — launch price, normally $39 + GST. There’s no setup fee and no contract.
